Using Social Media - A Guide for Military Personnel

The use of social media is accepted by Defence and, when
used appropriately, should be encouraged.

The issue we face is not why or how we use social media, but how
well we use it.
The government has produced a useful guide that tells you what is
and isn’t acceptable social media behaviour for military personnel.

Information On The New 30 Hours Free Childcare Offer.

This new offer enables some working parents of 3 and 4 year olds to now get up to 30 hours of free childcare. Find out if you are eligible and apply.
Please view our parents' information page.

All 3 and 4 year olds get up to 15 hours of free childcare per week, and some 2 year olds are also eligible. Working parents of 3 and 4 year olds may also be able to get up to 30 hours of free childcare.

Who can get 30 hours free childcare?

It is for working families in England with 3 and 4 year old children. Parents must be working and each earning at least £120 a week, but no more than £100,000 a year.

You might also be able to get Tax-Free Childcare. If so you can apply for both at the same time.
See GOV.UK for the full eligibility criteria (opens in a new window)

MOD Housing Referral Scheme

The MOD Referral Scheme is coordinated by JSHAO to assist some service leavers to get accommodation via housing associations.
Some housing associations ask JSHAO to nominate personnel as tenants for vacant properties. Being on the MOD Referral Scheme provides an additional route to secure housing.

The MOD have recognised that some service leavers have difficulty in accessing social and affordable housing. Through this scheme the donating housing associations are able to help people who otherwise may have problems being prioritised high enough to have a realistic chance of being housed by local authorities.

Applicants must be:
  • armed forces personnel within 6 months of their discharge date
  • currently occupying service accommodation, the Services Cotswold Centre or a hostel
Applications for the scheme can be accepted from service leavers, married or single, and from separated spouses living in SFA.

Recruit for Spouses - Returning Talent to the Workplace

Most modern families in the UK recognise that where once a second income might have been an advantage, it is increasingly a ‘must-have’, and military families are no exception. Too frequently, skilled, career-minded spouses are overlooked in the workplace in favour of candidates perceived to be more geographically stable.

Recruit for Spouses’ message to business is simple: recent changes throughout the British military mean its families are more settled then ever before, and Forces’ spouses deserve rewarding income opportunities from a level playing field.

If you’re a military spouse with aspirations of saving for a house deposit or funding a mortgage so your family can put down roots, we can help you to make it happen.

Injured Veterans Military Compensation

Following English, Welsh and Scottish Government announcements this year, injured veterans in England, Scotland and Wales will no longer have to surrender most of their military compensation to pay for their social care from 2017.

By contacting their MPs about this issue, our supporters were instrumental in persuading their Government to protect injured veterans’ compensation payments. Thank you to everyone who gave their support; the new changes really will make a huge difference to thousands of
injured veterans.
